Review:
The Wortwell bell is a pub that’s on a lot of our southern routes and so we pass it quite often, but as it has a shorter distance it tends to be used as a winter destination. Currently, its winter, which means this week was a good time to stop and sample some of the delicious burgers.
The venue has recently expanded too, removing what was a small shop area and adding a few more tables in, which was a good job as they were totally full.
They have a good menu here and their burger options are rather tempting too as were the homemade sausage rolls on the bar when we got there.
Our menu choices were;
Ed & Howard: Fish and chips – £9.95
Battered fillet of cod, chips and peas with homemade tartar sauce.
Mike: (had been to GBK the night before) Norfolk Mushroom Burger – £9.95
Flat mushroom filled with caramelised onions and topped with brie, served in a bun with mayo, relish, lettuce, tomato, onion.
Nick & Steve: Korean Chilli Burger – £10.95
8oz spicy steak burger, chilli mayo, lettuce, tomato, kimchi and pickled chilli’s.
All the burgers were very good, the mushroom burger is a good slab of a mushroom well cooked and presented. The Korean is a really tasty combination of just the right amount of spice and a good steak burger.
The only difference here is the way they are served in a long roll, rather than the traditional burger roll. Not that in any way this is an issue, and it does mean the roll doesn’t disintegrate before you get to the end of the burger too.
