About Rides, Beers & Burgers

Thanks for visiting Rides, Beers and Burgers.

As the name suggests this website contains information all about a group of cycling adventures and the food and beer that is sampled and enjoyed on each of the rides.

We are a bunch of MAMIL’s (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) all based in Norwich (Well almost), Norfolk who get together once a week for a cycle ride and a trip to a local (ish) pub. Our mileage can range from 15 – 60 miles of an evening depending on the time of year and if the destination is worth the visit.

In the Beginning

Many years ago our rides were simply to the coastal areas of Norfolk and Suffolk with a trip to a Fish & Chip shop followed by a call into a couple of Pubs on the journey back towards home, to of course sample the wares on offer

During the summer months (BST) the rides took place every Thursday evening and then when the clocks changed and the weather became gloomy and downright miserable we switched it to a full moon ride, riding once a month to coincide with the light of the full moon if we were lucky enough to get a break in the clouds.

This has since evolved into a regular Thursday night, no matter what the time of year and almost any type of weather the gods wish to throw at us, or indeed what the clock setting happens to be at that particular time of year.

Now our rides involve trips to the various delightful Pubs and/or Restaurants that are scattered around the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. And no sporting club of any kind would be complete without it’s Annual General Meeting of which just happens to be around the festive period for us where a hearty Christmas meal (no burgers, but there is paella) is enjoyed by all, following a now traditional photograph outside the gates to Blicking Hall, even if the ride is rather chilly on both outbound and return journeys.

Anyway, back to the website

Rides, beers and burgers was borne from wanting a way to keep track of the venues we visit, the food consumed (normally many burgers) and the beers on offer and drunk whilst visiting the particular establishment along with the riders present on that ride (especial if John W isn’t present to photograph the evening).

Each week we are cycling to a venue and then rating it on the quality of the food (again normally burgers), the beers on offer and a quick overview of the ride, which let’s be honest will probably be the most boring part for anyone reading this. But this gives us the reminder of who was out for each ride, what the food and beer choice was like of that particular restaurant/pub and gives us an informed decision so we can decide if we should go back.

If you happen to have stumbled upon this site and it helps you on your quest for finding either a cycling route to a pub or a place to sample a burger then or eat and drink then that’s even better.

From time to time there might just be a food (burger) review if it’s deemed worthy enough but most of the food and beer reviews on this site will be tied in with a ride through the countryside first.

If you have a suggestion of a venue or would like us to review your venue then submit it via our review my venue form. (As long as you don’t mind a bunch of MAMILs eating with your regular guests) We are of course a very well behaved bunch.
