It has to be said, the best thing about this pub on a cold evening was the amazing wood burner that welcomed us on arrival.
The choice of beers and ciders on offer was a good selection with Adnams (although a lack of Ghost Ship) enough to please everyone, a warm spiced cider was also available, which Howard took the plunge on, whilst Chris and myself settled for a coffee to help warm up in front of the wood burner.
Lucky for 2 of us, there was a promotion running for a Beer and a Burger for only £10.50, so of course, why wouldn’t you.
There was also a tempting steak and apple option, which was a 6oz steak served with all the trimmings followed by an apple and blackberry crumble.
Now, it’s quite a rare thing for us Mamils to partake in a dessert with our meals because
- we have to ride home
- we don’t normally have time
But as this was a shorter ride and we were so early it looked like a no brainer.
This weeks menu choices were;
Ed – Luxury Fishermans Pie £13.50
Served with Saute Potatoes, Crushed Minted Garden Peas & Courgette Spaghetti with Prawn Butter
Steve – Vegetarian Burger, Served in a Bun with Mustard Mayo, Skin on Fries, Salad Garnish & Onion Rings.
Nick & Howard – Gamekeeper Steak Burger (10.50 With a beer)
Served in a Bun with Mustard Mayo, Skin on Fries, Salad Garnish & Onion Rings. Beef can be substituted for Chicken or Lamb.
Mike & Chris – Steak & Apple £15
6oz Steak and all the trimmings followed by Apple & Blackberry crumble served with ice cream or custard.
The meals weren’t disappointing, but the steaks were asked for medium rare and were quite cremated when they arrived, the burgers were very tasty though and were ground steak for sure.
The apple & blackberry crumble that was part of the Steak & Apple deal turned out to be apple pie.
It isn’t a venue that we will be returning to in a hurry.
