This weeks trip took us to the coastal town of Cromer before heading back inland to Southrepps and a visit to the Vernon arms.
A wonderful summers evening for a ride with a tailwind to the coast, just the odd fly to avoid swallowing.
The core team of Nick, Ed, Mike, Chris, Steve arrived at Cromer at met John, Tim and Dave taking our twice-yearly photo overlooking the sea.
We then grouped together and rode back to Southrepps to The Vernon Arms.
Arriving slightly earlier than our table booking we managed to get seated early too, thinking this would also mean an early departure, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be as we had a very long wait for our food.
Fortunately, the food was really good as always, the menu is good here too and it’s worth a visit, although I would recommend booking as it does get extremely busy.
Our food orders were;
Ed – Chilli Con Carne, Chilli con carne or vegetable chilli with rice and garlic bread
Dave – Pork Steak, Pork steak topped with red onion marmalade and melted Stilton served with creamy mash and fresh vegetables.
Steve – Scampi, Whole-tail scampi with chips minted mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce
Chris & Howard – Fish & Chips, Beer battered haddock with chips and minted mushy peas
Mike, Nick, Tim & John – Burgers or various combinations, Homemade beef burger with proper chips and homemade coleslaw. Cheddar or Stilton, Bacon or Bacon & Cheddar
All the food was on point and enjoyed by all of us, but after 30 miles and the wait, I think we’d have eaten whatever was put in front of us. Whilst the burger was very tasty and made much better by the smoky bacon that topped it, it doesn’t quite make the top 5 list as the competition is just too fierce.
